(THE BRONX, N.Y.) Bird, one of the e-scooter companies chosen to be part of the upcoming NYC pilot program, organized a demo for Bronxites on Monday alongside Councilman Kevin Riley, according to the Bronx Times.
Bird representatives hit Bronx streets in the Gun Hill section to hand out helmets, pricing information and safety tips for riders.
The new program will provide e-scooters to Eastchester, Co-Op City, Throggs Neck and Soundview. To access one of the 2,000 to 3,000 scooters coming to the city, riders can press a button on a smartphone app. The e-scooters can go as fast as 20 mph, and can be dropped off at parking corrals which will be installed by the NYC Department of Transportation.
