School is out, and summer vacation is full steam ahead! And with this weather, I do mean steam. With temperatures already in the high 90s most days of the week, summertime could mean swimming, ice cream, sunbathing, and heading out on vacation. But that's not all it means.
Summertime is also the kick-off of the local library's summer reading program. Grab your next beach book at the library, and head on out to the summer reading kick-off party to sign your kids up for their own summertime reading.
Summer Reading Kick-Off Party
Morgan County Library's Summer Reading Program kicks off on Saturday--and you won't want to miss it! Head over to Bill Wood Park from 11:00 am- 1:00 pm to celebrate the start of Summer. The Kona Ice Truck will be there, and you'll have the opportunity to sign your kids up for the Summer Reading Program.
Magician Ken Scott will be on hand to captivate audiences. He's the four-time recipient of the Atlanta Magician of the Year Award, has appeared on America's Funniest Home Videos, and has performed 5 times at the White House. This isn't your cousin's cheap card trick! Come prepared to be amazed and entertained.
Register for summer reading, grab a sweet treat, and prepare to be amazed!
The fun won't stop there! There will be FREE activities at the library all summer long. Some require registration, so be sure to pick up a copy of the schedule at the library so you don't miss out.
Summer Schedule
- Every Monday and Friday at 11:00 am, there will storytime in the Laughin' Place Garden along with a craft. Enjoy some outdoor entertainment--perfect for keeping active children busy during the summer.
- On June 1st, bring your kids out to learn from the Southeastern Reptile Rescue at 11:00 am on the front lawn. Look for the Venom Van or Reptile Wagon--and don't let them scare you! While snakes and other reptiles will be present, their handlers will be on hand to keep you safe and to educate you about the many reptiles native to this area. Expect snake safety to feature in the talk, and if you don't run away screaming, you just might learn something valuable.
- Attend virtual Bingo on June 3rd and July 1st at 6 pm. Registration is required for this event.
- Don't miss out on Pajama Storytime on June 17th and July 15th at 6 pm. Don't forget to register as it is required for Pajama Storytime.
