(TRENTON, N.J.) New Jersey will allow undocumented immigrants to get driver’s licenses starting Saturday, NorthJersey.com reported.
The expansion in eligibility was originally supposed to start Jan. 1, but the Motor Vehicle Commission said the COVID-19 pandemic delayed training for those processing the licenses.
The rule change, which was adopted unanimously by the MVC board, makes it so a Social Security or Tax Identification Number is no longer needed to obtain a driver’s license.
"The proposed amendments will further expand access to the privilege of operating a motor vehicle in New Jersey and ensure that those on the roads are tested, trained, licensed and insured,'' regulatory officer Kristen Miller said during the online hearing, according to NorthJersey.com.
