(DETROIT) Still in the midst of low COVID-19 vaccination rates, the city of Detroit is looking to make vaccinations even easier to come by for Detroiters with the addition of new walk-in clinics Tuesday, according to WXYZ Detroit.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said that while new COVID-19 cases are starting to decline, Detroit's vaccination numbers are still lagging behind. He said that only 10% of people between the ages of 16 and 29 years old have been vaccinated, in comparison to 26% of those between the ages of 30 and 64, and 54% of those 65 and older.
With the addition of walk-in clinics in the city, he plans to make Detroit the easiest-access city to COVID-19 vaccines in the nation.
"We are going to be the city that has the most open access than any place in America. That's the goal," Duggan said.
In total, Detroit has 11 walk-in clinics. Four of them will be operating five days a week, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., with no appointment needed. These four locations are:
- TCF Center indoors
- Farwell Rec Center
- NW Activity Center
- Samaritan Center
