(LANSING, Mich.) Michigan State Rep. Jewell Jones was released from the Livingston County jail Wednesday after being involved in a car crash Tuesday on the I-96 highway, as reported by the Detroit Free Press.

According to a Livingston County sheriff's office official, Jones, 25, is facing potential charges following the crash. Livingston County Undersheriff Jeffrey Warder said that Jones was released Wednesday afternoon "pending additional investigation."

Warder also said that an arraignment for Jones had been expected for Wednesday, but was delayed.

The Livingston County Prosecutor's Office released a statement regarding the situation, confirming that it is reviewing a file regarding Jones.

"The matter is under investigation and it would not be appropriate to provide any further comment," the statement said.

Jones made history in 2016 when he became the youngest state representative in Michigan's history at the age of 21.
