Why various New Yorkers are leaving the city for Hudson Valley? Something is definitely attracting them 120 miles outside the city.

Though more and more people are moving to the Big Apple, others have probably decided to forget the apartment living and make their exits. It is now in their to-do lists to find a place with a bit more headspace and peace. The cost of living in New York City has increased in recent years. Plus, people are concerned about the virus. They think that the virus spreads easily and quickly because it is difficult to maintain distance in this busy and highly populated city.

Kyle Anderson has given a valid reason for why people are moving from New York City to Hudson Valley. “New York City has high prices with low space. On the other hand, Kingston has low prices with high space,” says Kyle Anderson. Real estate agent Phil Szumlaski calls Hudson Valley a great estate market.

"I had a 1,100 sq ft ranch in New Windsor last week have 24 showings in five days with 10 offers, most over the asking price," Phil Szumlaski revealed. In January 2021, the Wall Street Journal revealed that more and more people are buying properties in Hudson Valley and are starting their own businesses. Some of them are showing interest in purchasing local businesses.

There’s amazing energy up here, and there are so many young people.

Besides, copy director and essay writer Deenie Hartzog-Mislock has chosen Hudson for some very simple reasons. “We wanted space, nature. We knew we wanted a lifestyle that was a little quieter and easier,” says the copy director. “The downtown of upstate is a name the new contingent of Greenwich Village-hopping ex-pats inspired.”

The cost of living in Hudson Valley is lower than in New York City. Given that various people have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and now have no or a few sources of income, they are happily shifting to Hudson Valley. They want to start new lives in a whole new and more peaceful environment. Basically, they have reset their priorities. This is the reason why the Hudson, NY real estate market has seen noticeable growth. According to a New York Times article, things changed from 2014 to 2017. The area has experienced a more than 40 percent increase.

Work and Commuting

The 120-mile journey into NYC is both dreadful and doable for a daily commute. It is believed that more than 45 percent of American workers have jobs that allow them to move anywhere in the country. “Me being full-time freelance, I like the idea that I could get into the city,” Hartzog-Mislock says. She has completed a contract in midtown Manhattan. She has the advantage of completing her work remotely. She is a public relations consultant, a woodworker, and a cookbook author. There are two types of people in her circle: one group has lost their jobs to the pandemic and the other one is allowed to move anywhere within the country. Hartzog-Mislock and her husband are renting a home in a peaceful area and are seeing more attention from city escape artists.

To put it simply, many New Yorkers are getting attracted to Hudson Valley because of affordable living, high space, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
