(BOSTON) Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker (R) announced that all remaining residents aged 16 and older will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations by April 19.
Here is a list of the latest vaccine eligibility timeline that Baker announced on Twitter:
- On Monday: Residents aged 60 and older will be eligible as well as workers in certain fields, including transit, grocery, food and public works sectors.
- By April 5: Residents aged 55 and older and those with at least one medical condition that puts them at higher risk for severe illness will be eligible.
- By April 19: The vaccine will be available to the general public.
The move will make Massachusetts the latest state to expand eligibility ahead of President Joe Biden’s directive to make all adults eligible for the vaccine by May 1.
Massachusetts is midway through Phase 2 of its vaccine distribution rollout. Residents over the age of 65, individuals with multiple qualifying health conditions, as well as K-12 school and child care center employees are eligible to get vaccinated, in addition to Phase 1 groups.
The state has administered 2.6 million doses of coronavirus vaccines as of Tuesday, according to data from the state. Of that number, 1.66 million people have received their first dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, and 883,407 have received both doses.
