The Night Kitchen Bakery in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania is known for creating one-of-a-kind cakes that are delightful and delicious — and likely to go viral when you post about them online. I love the cake photos on the bakery’s Instagram feed so much that I wanted to share some of my favorites. For instance? Check out these three magical Harry Potter Birthday Cakes:
The Chestnut Hill Harry Potter Festival Cake
Night Kitchen Bakery co-owner Amy Edelman tells me that the first cake the bakery ever based on J.K. Rowling’s popular book was created for Chestnut Hill’s annual Harry Potter Festival. When this photo was first posted on Facebook it instantly went viral, and was shared by fans all over the globe a total of 5 million times! (It definitely put her small Pennsylvania bakery on the map — but if you wanted to order one and lived in Munich or Seattle you were out of luck.) Because the cake decorator who designed it was a Harry Potter fan, she got all the details — from the sorting hat to the golden snitch — just right.
Magical Theory and the Hogwarts Express Cake
This fanciful birthday cake was a recent creation. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the birthday girl couldn’t have a big party — but she could (and did!) have a big cake.
The Monster Book of Monsters Cake
The only piece of pastry the Night Kitchen Bakery has every created containing four eyeballs, this cake, based on a sentient textbook that can bite off a reader’s fingers, was Siena’s special 8th birthday party request. She probably enjoyed the idea of being able to bite back!
If you love Harry Potter? The only thing better than reading every book in the series would be reading them all again — with cake.
