Stop ONLY taking barre, pilates, or group fitness classes.⁣

I’m talking to you actor, singer, dancers!

Although these classes are fun and they allow us the comfort of community that reminds us of the community we get from rehearsal or performance spaces, these classes are not doing much to enhance our performance as artists. Might I recommend, if you’re gonna take class, TAKE AN ACTUAL DANCE CLASS.⁣

I have to ask: Do you see professional football players ONLY practicing throwing or catching? Do you see them ONLY sprinting or running agility drills?

NOPE. Football players are enhancing their strength and their power in the gym by lifting heavy weights and addressing their personal imbalances so that they can optimally perform their sport when it comes time on the field.

Why are dancers and singers and actors any different? Shouldn't performers be trying to enhance our power and strength as well?

Barre is valid. Sure. It’s important. All exercise is great especially in a global pandemic. But if you're looking to be a professional in this field, we must look at barre as sport specific. Diversify your training and you’ll see drastic improvements when it is time to jeté across the stage again.
