Alex Lasry, an executive for the Milwaukee Bucks, announced Wednesday he would run in 2022 for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, according to CBS News.

Lasry criticized Johnson's tenure as one of Wisconsin's senators, telling CBS News, "For the last 10 years, we've had a senator who hasn't been representing Wisconsin, someone who's been more interested in peddling conspiracy theories and lies, rather than actually getting things done on behalf of his constituents."

In a video announcing his candidacy, Lasry made the case for himself, listing endorsements from other politicians and detailing his work with the Bucks.

He said he wants to bring a "fresh perspective" to Washington and added that he'd be committed to passing a $15 federal minimum wage and passing the PRO Act, a labor rights bill.

"We're not just talking about a $15 minimum wage: we're actually paying one," Lasry said, referring to the Bucks organization. "We're not just talking about creating good union jobs — we've created thousands of them. We're not just talking about being on the front lines of racial and social justice — we're doing that."

With Lasry's entrance in the race, there are now two candidates declared to run against Sen. Johnson after Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson joined the race in the fall. According to CBS News, other potential Democratic candidates include Wisconsin State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski and Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes.
