(OAKLAND, Calif.) As the Golden Globes approach, two Bay Area music stars have been nominated in the best original song category, The East Bay Times reports.

The song “Tigress and Tweed,” by Oakland’s own Raphael Saadiq and San Diego singer, Andra Day, has earned the two performers a nomination. The song was featured in the Hulu film “The United States vs. Billie Holliday.”

The song, “Fight for You” from the Warner Bros. film “Judas and the Black Messiah,” has earned Vallejo’s R&B superstar H.E.R. a nomination, alongside Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II and Tiara Thomas.

The Golden Globe nominations were released on Wednesday and both artists were thrilled to be included in the nominations.

“I’m honored that the HFPA has recognized our song ‘Tigress & Tweed’ with a Golden Globe nomination, as well as Andra Day’s brilliant portrayal of Billie Holiday,” Saadiq said in a statement.

“Her musical legacy remains vital and powerful, and co-writing the song with Andra gave me the opportunity to pay homage to Holiday’s enduring artistry. I am truly blessed to work with Day, director Lee Daniels and the team that brought this chapter of Billie’s story to the screen.”

H.E.R. took to social media to express her elation using all caps in a Twitter post.

“CAN’T BELIEVE I’M A GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! WHAT A BLESSING!!!!! Shout out to @tiara_thomas @dmile85 @JATBMFilm!!!! #JudasAndTheBlackMessiah #GoldenGlobes.”

Saadiq first gained notoriety in the 80s as part of Oakland's soul sensation Tony! Toni! Toné! He also worked on projects with artists such as Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Joss Stone, Ledisi, Stevie Wonder and John Legend.

H.E.R. debuted in 2017 with her self-titled album that featured R&B chart-toppers “Focus” and “Best Part.” H.E.R. has won two Grammys and has received three nominations in two categories for the upcoming 2021 award show.

Saadiq and H.E.R. will be competing against “One Night in Miami”; and “Hear My Voice” by Daniel Pemberton and Celeste from the Netflix film “The Trial of the Chicago 7”; “Speak Now” by Leslie Odom Jr and Sam Ashworth from the Amazon Studios film “One Night in Miami” and “Io Si (Seen)” by Diane Warren, Laura Pausini and Niccolò Agliardi from the Netflix film “The Life Ahead.”
