(MADISON, Wisc.) Wisconsin health officials said Thursday that the state will need to increase its daily COVID-19 vaccine immunization count in order to meet federal vaccine goals.

In order to do that, Wisconsin will need to double or triple its current 70,000 doses a week its currently receiving, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

"Our system is working, and we are in the process of continuing to increase entry points for people to get vaccine in our state," said Julie Willems Van Dijk, deputy director of the state Department of Health Services, at a press conference. "We don’t have enough supply to open the gates much wider."

As of Thursday, Wisconsin had administered 110,000 vaccines. To do its part in achieving President-elect Joe Biden's goal of 1 million vaccines a day, Wisconsin will need to administer about 18,000 vaccines daily or 126,000 a week.

The state is still in Phase 1A for its vaccine plan, which includes health care workers and nursing home residents. By the end of the month, officials plan to shift to Phase 1B, which includes teachers, first responders, correction workers and people over the age of 75, according to the State Journal.
