Leavenworth bomb threat leads to evacuation

(LEAVENWORTH, Wash.) An anonymous caller tipped police to a bomb in a trash can in the mountain town of Leavenworth Tuesday night, according to county reports.

The male caller reportedly said there was a bomb in a trash can in the 800 block of Front Street in the small town.

Police immediately responded and started evacuations of the downtown area. People outside donwtown were asked to shelter in place for a few hours. Highway 2 was closed and traffic was rerouted to surface streets.

Washington State Patrol Bomb Technician Team was brought in for assistance and, after sweeping the area for an additional devices with dogs, turned the scene back over to Chelan County Sheriff's Office.

Highway 2 and the dowtown corridor were subsequently reopened.

The investigation is ongoing by Chelan County Sheriff's Office.
