(SEATTLE) The West Seattle water taxi will return to service Monday, Dec. 7, following a stoppage for replacement of a component at one of the vessel's dock facilities.
King County Metro confirmed in a press release that the replacement project would wrap up on time Sunday, allowing the ferry to return to normal service Monday. The ferry stopped service Dec. 4 so that a floating dock at the Seacrest Park terminal could be placed. The work had been scheduled in advance.
The commuter-carrying small ferry's return to service marks an on-schedule completion of the project, which the agency reminded commuters about on Thursday.
Because of COVID-19, Metro had downgraded capacity on the ferries that serve the route, limiting the number of passengers they could carry to facilitate social distancing aboard. But ridership during the pandemic has been mostly below the new limits, anyway, the agency said.
The West Seattle route carried just under 450 million passengers in 2019, according to the agency.
