“Legal Marijuana Causes Warehouse Rent to Skyrocket in Sacramento — 4 or 5 times Normal”

Sacramento Bee [Sacramento, California] October 17, 2017.

Exactly one year and one day from that pronouncement Rodan crashed with one wing on fire straight the fuck into my business — or more likely someone homeless trying not to freeze to death, take your pick.

On Thursday, October 18, 2018, a Five-Alarm Fire smoked, crashed, burned then gushed water over and through my 8,000 square feet of vintage wares.

It was also, not surprisingly, the same day I would discover to my horrified resignation but sadly not a shock — the pricey insurance premium I had been paying regularly and on time since moving the stuff of my life and my business into the once-home of all things at one time Potatoes and Spud Brothers — was for Liability Insurance and not Property Insurance.

Which is to say even big stuff can fall through the cracks when you’ve spread yourself one too many businesses too thin — but letting this particular administrative detail take a dump was a real punch in the gut on that particular day.

Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.

Preach, Allen Saunders, preach — even though I thought that was John Lennon’s quote but guess what, Mr. Saunders said it first and if that’s what he had the wits to say while his life was being derailed — he deserves the credit.

So now it’s time to ponder what’s left and how to salvage IT my 8,000 sq. ft. of now smoke, ash, and literally fire-hose-watered STUFF but first I’ll need to get out of my pajamas — take off these positively ruined moccasins and have a hot cup of coffee (or two).

This is going to get messy before it gets beautiful and I’d hate for you to miss any of it so let’s stay tethered, ok?
