On Thursday, Facebook removed a Pro-Trump group called "Stop The Steal" from its platform. The group was removed because it posited false claims about the elections and voter fraud as factual, and it encouraged the organization of protests that threatened violence.

NPR reports that the Facebook group was created on Wednesday and it had over 360,000 members before Facebook removed it.

Facebook spokesperson Andy Stone addressed the group's removal and said, "The group was organized around the delegitimization of the election process, and we saw worrying calls for violence from some members of the group."

In addition to sharing false information about the election, the group also organized protests at vote-counting facilities "and some members discussed arming themselves for violent confrontations," NPR reported.

According to NBC, "Anticipating a Facebook ban, 'Stop The Steal' drove users to a separate website with no Facebook affiliation, allowing the 350,000 users that had already showed interest to organize events without regulation from Facebook."

Facebook's decision to remove the group from its platform is part of an ongoing effort to prevent the spread of misinformation pertaining to the election.
