(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated by millions of people across the globe from Tuesday, Sept 15 to Tuesday, Oct 15.
Celebrating our differences is especially important at Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS).
The Manatee county school board said, "Hispanic Heritage Month is a welcome celebration in the School District of Manatee as a significant number of School District teachers and staff are of Hispanic heritage and approximately 35 percent of our students are of Hispanic or Latino."
People celebrate this event in many ways including food, parties, and much more.
LRHS marketing teacher Sharelies Rodriguez stated, "To me Hispanic Heritage month is an opportunity to celebrate and bring awareness about the contribution of the Hispanic community to the story of the US. There is a lot of diversity inside the Hispanic community and it is a great time to create the awareness and educate others about it and celebrate those differences."

Geometry teacher Monica Bueso said she also finds way to celebrate her cultural heritage.
"In my family our biggest tradition is our food," she said. "We try to cook our traditional food as much as we can, and we are always looking and trying Hispanic restaurants."
The US Department of State describes the attribute brought by many Hispanic Americans. "During National Hispanic Heritage Month, the U.S. government celebrates the countless contributions of more than 60 million Hispanic Americans to our culture and society. Hispanic Americans are the largest minority group in the United States today, and generations of Hispanic Americans have consistently helped make our country strong and prosperous."
