(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant has been named NBA Rookie of the Year Thursday, according to sources from ESPN.

Morant has been the consensus pick among many sportswriters even before today’s vote.

In 67 games with the Grizzlies, Morant averaged 17.8 points, 7.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. He shot 47.7 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from the three-point line.

Morant topped the Rookie of the Year voting, with guard Kendrick Nunn of the Miami Heat and power forward Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans rounding out the top three spots in voting.

The Rookie of the Year award was voted on by a group of sportswriters who voted in a first, second and third place point system.

Morant was drafted second overall in the 2019 NBA Draft. He played his freshman and sophomore years with Murray State before declaring for the draft.
