Tropical Storm Laura has been categorized as a category 3 hurricane as it heads towards the city of Houston. The storm continues to head for the Gulf Coast, and officials have started issuing evacuation orders.
According to Click2Houston, a few counties have released their evacuation orders and plans.
BAYTOWN: Voluntary evacuation is recommended for zip codes 77520 and 77523.
GALVESTON COUNTY: There is a mandatory evacuation order for the residents of "Bolivar peninsula, including unincorporated areas of Port Bolivar, Crystal Beach, High Island, and Gilchrist." The order takes effect immediately, and the judge has also issued a voluntary evacuation order "for the Bayshore areas of unincorporated Galveston County, which includes San Leon and Baycliff. He also issued a voluntary evacuation order for the Freddiesville area along Highway 6."
CITY OF GALVESTON: The mandatory evacuation is effective Tuesday, and residents are advised to secure loose items on their property and leave the island. " STEAR program residents can call 409-765-3710." Sanitation "will complete its route Tuesday morning before suspending services."
HARRIS COUNTY: The voluntary evacuation order is in effect for zones A and B. This includes places "along Galveston Bay such as Friendswood, Webster, Seabrook, La Porte, Morgans Point, Nassau Bay, Clear Lake, El Lago, Taylor Lake Village, and Shoreacres."
HOUSTON: Voluntary evacuations were issued for Houston residents in zip codes "77059, 77062, 77058." Those within the voluntary evacuation area can "call 3-1-1 for shelter information. Anyone outside of the zone should begin preparing to shelter in place."
Orange County, City of Lake Jackson, League City, City of Nassau Bay, City of La Porte, Kemah, and Jefferson County have brief evacuation orders here.
