The new 85mm DG DN Art looks poised to be the new champion of 85mm lenses

Sigma just announced their all new 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art lens, and unlike the previous HSN iteration, this one is designed exclusively for mirrorless camera systems and optimized for both contrast and phase detect autofocus. Of specs and initial reviews are any judge, we may very well have the new king of 85mm lenses in our midst!

The new 85mm DG DN is nearly half the weight and length of the old 85

Sigma fans who were developing back problems using the previous 85mm f/1.4 (joke intended) will be happy to know that the new lens is almost half the size and half the weight! It's also being touted as sharper and better.

This new 85mm f/1.4 is the most feature rich lens we've ever seen

To make things even better, the 85mm DG lens has every bell and whistle a photographer could ever dream of, including an autofocus lock button, a tactile switch to toggle between manual focus and autofocus, a physical aperture ring -and- a new feature I've never even seen before, but I've dreamed of - an aperture ring lock button so you don't accidentally turn the aperture ring and wonder why all your pictures are blurry for several minutes until you realize what happened. And yes - I've I done this many times with the 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art lens and I hated it even though I liked the ring being there. As far as I know, no one has even done this before it's brilliant and gives photographers and videographers the ability to enjoy all of the benefits of an aperture ring without any of the drawbacks.

It's available now for preorder

Perhaps the best part of all of this is that Sigma's new lens is available now for preorder and you can find out how to purchase it and get all the juicy details as they unfold at AYRN.
