Severe thunderstorm risks rise Texas Oklahoma Kansas & Missouri along with elevated tornado risk

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS & TORNADO RISK TUESDAY 4/1/2025 TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, KANSAS, MISSOURI, IOWA

As one severe weather producer exits the East Coast a new storm system will begin developing in the Central Plains. This system is going to fire up another round of severe weather for the Plains and parts of the Upper Mississippi River Valley late Tuesday & Tuesday night. The Storm Prediction Center is indicating a large geographic area of "slight risk" (15 percent chance) of severe thunderstorms as well as elevated tornado risk. Strong winds of 50 to 65 mph are possible.

This storm system is also going to produce heavy snow in parts of the Dakotas and Minnesota as it heads northeastward into Canada Wednesday. Expect thunderstorms to develop late Tuesday afternoon from Nebraska south to Central Texas and then shifting to the east from Missouri south southwestward into Oklahoma during Tuesday inght.

At this point severe weather is going to be front and center once again as a much larger geographic area of slight to enhanced risk is being indicated for many of the same areas that will be under the gun Tuesday. Wednesday sees the European model shows a very bullish scenario for severe thunderstorms in the Ohio & Tennesse Valley as well as elevated tornado risk. Thunderstorms on both days could produce strong winds of 50 to 65 mph or more. Tornado risk is likely to increase Wednesday as the frontal boundary pushes eastward and stalls out across the Lower Ohio Valley.
