CHICAGO, IL – The events that unfolded inside a third-floor apartment on Chicago's South Side remain shrouded in mystery, but 20-year-old Mariah Ivy is no longer alive to share her story.

According to the Chicago Police Department, on Saturday, March 15, 2025, around 5:30 p.m., police responded to reports of a home invasion in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals—Mariah Ivy from Steger, Illinois, and an unnamed 20-year-old man—lying outside the apartment building. Both had sustained serious injuries from a fall out of a third-story window. Both victims were rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center. The man suffered severe injuries to his legs and was listed in critical condition, while Mariah also sustained blunt-force trauma and was critically injured. She ultimately succumbed to her injuries two days later, on Monday, March 17, 2025.

According to the Chicago PD, the two were victims of a home invasion, claiming that a man entered the unit, fired a shot and that both individuals jumped from the window to escape. However, Mariah's family disputes this version of events, asserting that it is incorrect and potentially misleading. In a public Facebook post, Mariah’s cousin, who goes by the name "Miraa Belle," issued a statement refuting the official narrative. “There were not two victims,” the post asserts. “There was one.” The family believes that Mariah’s ex-boyfriend, the man found with her, is not a fellow victim but rather the person responsible for her injuries and subsequent death:

“My family has reached out to The News station and LEGAL HELP FIRM page posting the wrong information to Either Take the story down or To correct the False Details and help us but Met with Silence and a *Disclaimer* on the post instead.

So here is the Correction!!

My Cousin lost her life due to a Cruel Act NOT an accident There were not TWO victims there was ONE. The Other person is now on the Run and Its not helping to find him with Fake stories being posted.

The only details that need to be shared is that she did not Jump she was Pushed out of that Third floor window and She was moved by the other individual…Broken Bones?… But He Checked himself out of the hospital Swiftly…there were multiple stories from him then theres the gruesome details of what all really happened to her……… which is why we need justice!! So please be empathetic as to how we feel seeing posts of TWO Victims……Stop sharing the fake stories and help Authorities Locate the other Individual now that he is Hiding.”

The cousin alleges that the man checked himself out of the hospital shortly after the incident, contradicting early reports that he was critically injured. She also implies there are inconsistencies in his story and that the public is being misled by outdated or inaccurate information being circulated by some news sources.

The Chicago Police Department has not named any suspects and has not confirmed whether the man is being sought in connection with Mariah’s death. The investigation remains open and active.

As Mariah’s loved ones continue to mourn her loss, they are also working to correct the narrative surrounding her story and to ensure that her case does not fade into the background.

What really happened? Did Mariah jump, or was she pushed?

The Chicago Police Department is investigating.
