California Highway Patrol officers effectively shut down a reckless motorcycle takeover that spanned Interstate 5 and Interstate 805 on Saturday, March 8, 2025, the CHP announced. The incident began around 8 a.m. when a large group of motorcyclists entered northbound I-805 at Imperial Avenue, performing dangerous stunts and blocking traffic for nearly 24 miles, according to the CHP.

By 8:30 a.m., the group exited I-5 at Via De La Valle in Solana Beach, where CHP officers swiftly intervened, guiding the riders into a parking lot. Officers issued 30 misdemeanor citations for street racing, reckless driving, and active participation as spectators. All 30 motorcycles were impounded.

Under California law, spectators within 200 feet of illegal motor vehicle exhibitions can face criminal charges and hefty fines.
